Hey guys!
Great news: Cruisers on the Rockies II is just around the corner! Trail selections will be available online later today, so here’s the lowdown on how it all works.
We’ll be using Sched as our online scheduling platform for the event. With Sched, you can check out all the activities and trail runs, along with their times and descriptions. Once you sign up for a run, your spot is guaranteed, but you can still switch to another run up until it starts. Each trail listing includes a rating, description, departure time, location with coordinates, and the FRS/GMRS channels and frequencies we’ll be using. I you don't see a channel yet, don’t worry—the channels will be finalized before the event kicks off.
IMPORTANT SCHED INFO: Please avoid using the Sched Mobile app since it’s quite limited. Instead, access Sched via your phone or computer’s browser for the best experience. You can even save the Sched page to your phone’s home screen to make it function like an app, retaining all the browser benefits.
Also, when you create a Sched account, your profile defaults to PRIVATE. PLEASE CHANGE THIS TO PUBLIC so Trail Leaders and other attendees can see who’s signed up for the runs.
Some trail runs might fill up quickly, while others might not. We’ll be monitoring sign-ups, and any run with fewer than 3-4 people may be removed. If that happens, we’ll let you know.
Once trail selection opens, feel free to join the conversation in our Cruisers on the Rockies Facebook Group. Trail leaders will be there to help with any questions and provide guidance.
Here’s a quick overview of the trail categories:
-
Easy Trails: Ideal for scenic drives on gravel roads with minor obstacles. Stock 100s and 200s should handle these with ease, though all-terrain tires are recommended.
-
Moderate Trails: Expect scenic routes with some challenges like rock gardens and water crossings. Stock 100s and 200s with A/T tires can tackle these, but sliders are a good idea.
-
Difficult Trails: For those up for a challenge, these trails feature narrow roads and rocky terrain. Sliders and larger tires are a must. Black Bear is more mentally challenging than technically, but just as rewarding.
Our volunteer trail leaders are experienced and knowledgeable, ready to assist with any recovery needs. Make sure all trucks have all-terrain tires and a full-sized spare. Punctures can happen, but with a spare, you'll be back on track in no time.
Remember, this is an FRS/GMRS-only event. Radios are affordable and easy to use, so be sure to test your equipment before the run—communication is key!
Ensure your fuel tank is topped off for the day’s adventure. Runs are planned to return by 4 PM, but times can vary. Pack a lunch, snacks, and drinks to keep you going throughout the day.
Volunteer-led runs will line up 30 minutes before departure, with a group meeting 15 minutes before. The start times listed in Sched are the actual departure times not meetup times.
Watch out for your trail selection invite later today!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
